We at the Family Safety Council have, as promised, begun to bring you additional products. These are products designed to enhance your families safety and security in times of crisis.

Each of these products has been carefully evaluated to determine if they meet our strict criteria. In order for us to accept them they must serve a useful purpose during a crisis and be a well-made durable product offered at a fair price. When we have a choice we prefer to use well-known American companies as our suppliers. They provide a higher level of confidence both to us and to our members.

Our priorities during a crisis should always be to make sure our loved ones are provided with the necessities of life; safe potable water, food & shelter. Along with these basics are many ancillary items in our modern world: lights, sleeping bags, etc, especially if the crisis has the potential to last more then a day or two. As we have seen in recent times some emergencies can last for many weeks or months. Regardless of whether these situations are brought about by nature, such as a hurricane like Katrina or some type of civil strife, these past few years have shown us the need to be prepared.

Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so plan how you will contact one another. Think about how you will communicate in different situations.

Complete a contact card for each family member. Have family members keep these cards handy in a wallet, purse, backpack, etc. You may want to send one to school with each child to keep on file. Pick a friend or relative who lives out-of-state for household members to notify they are safe.

The Family Communications Plan should be completed and posted so the contact information is readily accessible to all family members. A copy should also be included in your family survival kit.
